Port Moller Harvesters Sign on to Deliver Sockeyes to Silver Bay Seafoods

Commercial fishermen on the North Alaska Peninsula have signed on to deliver to Silver Bay Seafoods, and spokesperson Bob Murphy says they’re optimistic about the future. In an exclusive interview with Fishermen’s News on Aug. 12, Murphy said that they’re looking at Silver Bay as the future owner of the Port Moller seafood processing facility, but are still very concerned about an upcoming Peter Pan Seafood receivership hearing later this week, should another firm submit the winning bid on the plant. Murphy said that Silver Bay stepped up quickly after Peter Pan Seafoods and Trident Seafoods announced closure plans, bringing in more tenders, travel lifts, mechanics and welders, plus a store with an abundance of groceries and boat supplies. “It was a big help,” he said. Silver Bay Acquires Trident Seafood’s False Pass Processing Facilities

Trident Seafoods and Silver Bay Seafoods on June 7 announced that they’ve reached an agreement for Silver Bay to acquire one of Trident’s processing facilities and fuel business. Trident’s False Pass operation, located in the community of False Pass, a remote southwest Alaska fishing community on Unimak Island located between the tip of the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands, is dedicated entirely to processing salmon. The facility’s located next to Silver Bay’s False Pass processing facility, which opened in 2019. “The acquisition of the False Pass operations will create efficiencies between the two neighboring processing plants and includes a fuel facility that provides critical fuel services to the community and fishing fleet,” Silver Bay Seafoods President and CEO C...

Silver Bay, Peter Pan Reach Agreement on Valdez Facilities

Silver Bay Seafoods has acquired Peter Pan Seafoods’ Valdez, Alaska, processing facilities and also plans to operate Peter Pan’s facilities in Port Moller and Dillingham for the 2024 salmon season, the two processors said in an April 4 joint announcement. Shifting operations of these facilities to Silver Bay Seafoods is a component of a larger restructuring effort, which is still being finalized, the two seafood giants said. The larger restricting plan would have Silver Bay acquiring Peter Pan’s’ processing facilities and support sites after the 2024 salmon season. Peter Pan would remain active in conducting the remaining activities needed to close out 2023 operations, including sales and accounting functions. The two companies said that they’re committed to a seamless tra...

Peter Pan, Silver Bay Working on Possible Processing Partnership

A top official with Peter Pan Seafood says his company is working with competitor Silver Bay Seafoods on possible joint venture processing opportunities in Valdez, Alaska. “Even though it looks like nothing will happen regarding a JV (joint venture) between Peter Pan and Silver Bay in Prince William Sound, we will continue to try to find synergies that benefit community, fleet, and our customers, while at the same time boosting Peter Pan‘s bottom line,” said Peter Pan Seafood owner Roger May, who’s also president, chief growth officer and founder of Northwest Fish Co., LLC. May’s comments came on the heels of reports from a seafood industry publication that Peter Pan, which came under new ownership two years ago, and Silver Bay, founded in 2007, were stalled in negotiations to enga...
