SeaShare Names Lindoff Executive Director

Marketing executive Hannah Lindoff of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is assuming leadership of the nonprofit hunger-relief seafood entity SeaShare on April 1, filling the spot being vacated by Jim Harmon, who’s retiring after 23 years. Lindoff has worked with ASMI’s international program for over 15 years, most recently as senior director of global marketing and strategy, obtaining grant funds and managing special projects. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington in Virginia and a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Alaska Anchorage. NMFS Renews Prohibited Species Donation Permits for SeaShare for Pacific Salmon, Halibut

A major contributor of seafood to food banks nationwide located on Washington’s Bainbridge Island will benefit from a National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) decision to renew its prohibited species donation (PSD) permits to benefit their work to provide food for the hungry. NMFS announced in the Federal Register on May 18 that the agency had renewed the donation permits for Pacific salmon and Pacific halibut caught with trawl gear off Alaska. This action is necessary to comply with provisions of the PSD program and is intended to promote the goals and objectives of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. 2022 Seafood Donations to Yukon River Villages Via SeaShare Reach 74,000 Pounds

For a second year in a row, the Seattle-based nonprofit SeaShare has coordinated delivery of thousands of pounds of salmon to communities along Alaska’s Yukon River whose residents were banned from commercial and subsistence fishing, due to weak runs of wild salmon. SeaShare officials coordinate the donations of fish from harvesters and processors and logistics companies in Alaska to get the fish to communities in need. This year’s donations from Bristol Bay and Kodiak seafood processors includes 74,000 pounds of frozen king and chum salmon, which is 20,000 more pounds than in 2021. Collaborative Effort to Bring Salmon Relief to Yukon River Villages

A collaborative effort between six seafood processors and the nonprofit SeaShare on Bainbridge Island, Washington is resulting in the donation of about 49,000 pounds of frozen king and chum salmon to Lower Yukon River residents who are banned from fishing this summer on a commercial or subsistence level because of low salmon runs. SeaShare, a strategic partner of food banks nationwide, said that the donation was from Silver Bay Seafoods, Alaska General Seafoods, Leader Creek Fisheries, OBI Seafoods, North Pacific Seafoods and Trident Seafoods. The donations come in the wake of a record-breaking harvest season in Bristol Bay, with harvesters delivering over 59 million fish to processors.
