Salmonfest 2023: a Sold Out Success

Ask festivalgoers who show up by the thousands every year what attracts them to Salmonfest at Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds, and they’ll say it’s the music. But the undercurrent is the promotion and conservation of healthy salmon habitat. “You can’t build an event around a cause,” festival producer Jim Stearns told Fishermen’s News. “People don’t (care) about the cause. Old Crow Medicine Show, Leftover Salmon Coming to Salmonfest 2023

Salmonfest, Alaska’s annual weekend of fish, love and music, with a focus on the importance of preserving healthy salmon habitat in Alaska, has some of the nation’s top bands lined up for the festivities, which are scheduled for Aug. 4-6 at the Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds. Headliners include Old Crow Medicine Show, whose biggest claim to fame is their song “Wagon Wheel,” country singer Sierra Ferrell, jam band Leftover Salmon and psychedelic funk group Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. In all, some five dozen bands are scheduled to play on four stages during the festival. Salmonfest Returns to Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds This Weekend

Salmonfest 2022, a weekend-long concert celebrating everything salmon, gets underway Friday, Aug. 5, at Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds, with five stages, 65 bands, and over 100 vendors. Headliners this year range from Texas musician Shakey Graves to Rising Appalachia, the California Honeydrops, Kyle Hollinsworth and Canadian-American singer-songwriter and guitarist Steve Poltz. Since 2015, Salmonfest has donated over $150,000 to salmon and related initiatives. All 5,200 tickets to the event are sold out. The event also includes nearly 1,000 staff, vendors, plus band guests and another 1,000 children eligible for free admission and others over three-days of Salmonfest.
