Filleting expert Phonpasith Keodouangdy fillets a fresh Pacific halibut at 10th & M Seafoods in Anchorage. The economic woes created by the novel coronavirus aside, the demand is there for the succulent whitefish, available there for $22.95 a pound. The season opened on March 14, with an Alaska quota of about 17 million pounds. That same week in late March halibut fillets were $39.95 a pound at FishEx in Anchorage and $31.99 a pound at Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle, where whole halibut were going for $18.99 a pound.
