Pet Food Salmon Chips Win Alaska Symphony of Seafoods Grand Prize

Polkadog Alaskan Salmon Chips from Polkadog in Boston won grand prize honors at the 2024 Alaska Symphony of Seafood.

Polkadog Alaskan Salmon Chips, handcrafted in Boston, took the grand prize at the 2024 Alaska Symphony of Seafood, along with honors for best packaging and first place in the event’s “Beyond the Plate” competition.

Other top honors in the annual Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF) event, announced on Feb. 21 in Juneau, included first, second and third place winners in retail, foodservice and the “Around the Plate” and “Beyond the Plate” categories, plus awards for salmon choice, whitefish choice, best packaging, best grab-n-go, Bristol Bay Choice and the Seattle and Juneau People’s Choice, with participants in those areas voting for their favorites.

Echo Falls Smoked Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Nuggets by Ocean Beauty Seafoods took first prize in retail competition, with second place going to High Liner Foods’ Sea Cuisine Mediterranean Salmon and and third to Trident Seafoods’ Wild Alaska Premium Sockeye Hatch Chile Burger.

Trident’s Kraken Stash IPA Beer Battered Wild Alaska Pollock Fillets placed first in foodservice competition, with second place awarded to E & E Foods’ Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon Breakfast Sausage.

Alaska Seafood Crunchies – Wild Fish & Sea Cucumber by Glacier Delights dba the Bear House in Alaska, placed first in the “Around the Plate” competition, with Smoked Blackcod Pate by Whidbey Island Seafood Co. in second and Smoked Salmon Pepper Sticks by Fishermen’s Kitchen in third.

Polkadog swept the “Beyond the Plate” competition, winning first prize with its salmon chips, second place with its cod chips and third place with its cod skins, all pet foods.  

Ocean Beauty Seafoods’ Echo Falls Smoked Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Nuggets also won awards for Salmon Choice and Best Grab N Go, while Trident Seafoods’ Kraken Stash IPA Beer Bettered Wild Alaska Pollock Fillets won the Whitefish Choice competition. The winner of the Bristol Bay Choice, presented by the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA) was Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon Breakfast Sausage by E & E Foods.

The Smoked Blackcod Pate from Whidbey Island Seafood Co. took the Seattle People’s Choice award, while Glacier Delights’ Alaska Seafood Crunchies was the Juneau People’s Choice winner.
